MEMBERSHIP IN SGOMA

ABOUT MEMBERSHIP IN THE SGOMA


St. George Orthodox Military Association (SGOMA) has various types of membership available. As of now we do not have any official reoccurring membership dues, but to assist the SGOMA with its goals and services to our troops, some of our membership levels ask for a small annual donation. These donations will assist us in purchasing /paying for: materials, books, printing, advertisement, and shipping costs.

 

What do you get with your Membership: a quarterly news letter on the happenings within the SGOMA, special announcements from the SGOMA, and the personal satisfaction of knowing that you are helping out Eastern Orthodox Christian Men and Women serving in the U.S. Armed Services around the World. We hope that as we grow we can offer more to our members for their valued membership in the SGOMA.


 


LEVELS OF MEMBERSHIP & SPONSORSHIP:

 

1) Active Membership * - Available to all Active Duty, Reserves, National Guards and ROTC. If you are currently in any of the aforementioned statuses with the U.S. Armed Services then you qualify for Active Membership. All Active memberships are free to our troops.

 

2) Family Membership - If you have a loved one who is currently serving on Active Duty, or is in the Reserves, ROTC or the National Guard you can sign up for the Family Membership. For this level of Membership we ask for an annual donation of $15.


3) Veteran Membership * - Available to all Retirees and Veterans of any of the U.S. Armed Services. For this level of membership we ask for an annual donation of $20.


4) Supporter Sponsorship - Available to anyone who wants to show their support for our troops and the SGOMA's mission and goals. With this level of membership there is no need for any association with any of the U.S. Armed Services, just a desire to help our troops. For this level of sponsorship we ask for an annual donation of $25.


5) Parish Sponsorship - Available to any Orthodox Parish who want to show their support for our troops and the SGOMA's mission and goals. With this level of membership there is no need for any association with any of the U.S. Armed Services, just a desire to help our troops. For this level of sponsorship we ask for an annual donation of $100.


6) Corporate/Business Sponsorship - Available to any Corporation or Business who wants to show their support for our troops and the SGOMA's mission and goals. With this level of membership there is no need for any association with any of the U.S. Armed Services, just a desire to help our troops. For this level of sponsorship we ask for an annual donation of $100.

 



*GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ACTIVE AND VETERAN MEMBERSHIP:


In accordance with the By-laws of the Saint George Orthodox Military Association both the "Active" and "Veteran" membership levels are voting memberships (Family, Supporter and Parish Sponsorships are non-voting memberships). All persons who apply for either the Active or the Veteran membership must be:


A Baptized, Chrismated and Eucharisted (the Mysteries of Initiation) Orthodox Christian in genuine and authenticated good standing with the Holy Orthodox Christian Church and who is one of the following:
  1. An Orthodox Christian, or an ecclesiastically recognized and validated Orthodox Christian catechumen, on active duty in a branch of the United States Armed Services;
  2. An Orthodox Christian, or an ecclesiastically recognized and validated Orthodox Christian catechumen, who is a Reservist, ROTC, or who is in the National Guard;
  3. An Orthodox Christian, or an ecclesiastically recognized and validated Orthodox Christian catechumen, who is retired from military service;
  4. An Orthodox Christian, or an ecclesiastically recognized and validated Orthodox Christian catechumen, who is a recognized veteran of military service.

A verification statement must be signed by a Representative of the Orthodox Church (Priest, Bishop, Chaplain) on the SGOMA Application for anyone wishing membership in the association at either the Active or Veteran levels.  For those persons wishing to apply for Active or Veteran membership but are away from an Orthodox Church, Priest or Chaplain, through deployment, location or other situation may submit in writing the reasons/circumstances of why they are unable to have the Verification Section filled out. Each application will be reviewed by the Membership Committee and waivers may be granted on a case by case basis.

If you do not have a program that can read/print a Microsoft Word Document or would rather have us mail you the Membership Form, then please  email us with your: name, address, contact information, and your desired membership level. You will receive the Membership Form within a few days.

 

Of course if you would like to donate more than the annual requested donation for your level of membership you can go to our Donations page and find out what other donations can be made (monetary/supplies/books). Any sized donation is always gratefully accepted.
